Ask Jerry
How can I stop thinking about my book?
Asked by Dorottya Carlo on November 24, 2023
Hello Jerry, happy belated Thanksgiving! Thank you for answering my question last week. I made progress with the outline.
Ever since I am on my fiction journey, I am unable to stop thinking about my story. Day and night, at work or at home, I am incessently building, rethinking, polishing the plot, characters, and dialogues. It's like I stopped living my life and moved inside my head. I don't know if this is normal or not. I don't mind daydreaming when I'm idle. But it started affecting my presence with friends and family. Is there a way to turn off the inner storyteller on demand?
Jerry's Answer
I hope not, Dorottya. :) That's what makes us authors. Actual writing is the only antidote. Meanwhile, just apologize when you zone out, and blame it on being a creative.
