Killing off main character midway through the book
Asked by PATRICIA Reece krugel on April 16, 2020
The second book of a trilogy, set in the years 1750 through 1950, follows generations of a family, loosely based on my family lines. The male of the couple, the primary POV character dies at mid-point. The second half of the book follows the female's life as she takes the children and moves to the next state, pregnant after being raped . I have seen much advice saying that you can't "kill off" a main character in the middle of a book. Is that true?

The question is whether the character who dies is your perspective character, Patricia, through whose point of view you're telling the story. If, in essence, your camera goes dark, who tells the story?
