Ask Jerry

Point of View

Asked by Lynelle Clark on February 24, 2020

Good morning @Jerry,

I am busy with an inspirational suspense book divided into three parts. Each part has different characters, while the two main characters remain the same throughout.
For now, the two main characters point of view forms the story but as the plot thickens I have added several more points of view, which is well defined – as per my beta readers. Each plays an important role but I am afraid for too much p.o.v which some readers might find tedious.
What are your thoughts regarding this?

Thank you for your writer's guild, I found this extremely helpful and valuable. It has given me so many good ideas and insight I sure will follow.

Kind Regards

Thanks for your kind comments, Lynelle.

Yes, you can have too many POV characters, and if you think readers will weary of this, multiply that by ten.

Any way you can cut down on that number, by combining characters or having them rendered from the perspective of others would help.
