Ask Jerry

POV

Asked by Tom Hayden on November 30, 2020

In the main characters limited point of view what is the proper way to write events that occur if the main character becomes unconscious for a period of time. Thank you.

Jerry's Answer

The rule, Tom, is that you're limited to one POV character per scene--preferably your main character--but if you switch, make it crystal clear who the new person is. Like:

...[main character] lay panting and his world went black.

[center this] * * *

[then double space and flush left]

...[new POV character] rushed to him and felt for a pulse... [etc.]
