Ask Jerry

traditional or self-publishing?

Asked by Paul Beauchemin on May 12, 2020

Hi Jerry,

I've written a 64,000 page self-help book. I don't have a platform nor am I "credentialed". My book would compete with the greats from Napoleon Hill to Jordan Peterson.

Is there any reason for me to consider traditional publishing? I've self-published two business books, so the non-traditional path does not intimidate me. I have expertise in Facebook and Google advertising.

Recently ran into an editor I was trying to hire who wouldn't take my job because I wasn't credentialed.

Are there niche publishers that are interested in this or am I better self-publishing?

Thanks
Paul

Jerry's Answer

Why pay to be printed, Paul, if you could be paid to be published?

As you have learned, when you self-publish, everything falls to you, including all the financial risk.

However, it does sound as if you're aware of all that goes into self-publishing and you're willing to invest the time and money, so go for it. :)

All the best with your project.
