Manuscript Repair & Rewrite #27
Writers should constantly think reader-first, but if you’re new at this you may have only a fuzzy idea who your readers might be.
Here’s a rule of thumb: Write for yourself and assume your readers are like you.
But I contend that readers feel about your writing with ten times the intensity that you do.
If it keeps your interest, it will thrill them.
If it bores you, it will put them to sleep.
Any time you wonder whether a sentence is awkward, it is.
Does a conversation feel too long? It is.
Does your paragraph seem disjointed? It is.
If you want to learn to write stories that keep readers immersed throughout, join me for this month’s Manuscript Repair & Rewrite.
You’ll learn:
- How to identify and fix slow-moving passages
- Subtle ways to ramp up conflict
- What to omit to keep your story moving
- And much more!
Remember, whatever you feel, your reader feels it 10 times over.
